        The construction site for the new Berlin Brandenburg Airport Willy Brandt has over the past few years become a popular sightseeing attraction in Berlin and Brandenburg. Since the end of 2007, one million visitors have taken the opportunity to see for themselves the progress being made on the building site. Today in the terminal of the new airport, Dr Manfred A. Körtgen, Director of Operations of BBI at Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg GmbH, was able to welcome the one millionth visitor to the construction site, Ms Emiko Konishi from Berlin-Tiergarten.

        Trial operations using volunteer testers officially began today. 116 days before the new Berlin Brandenburg Airport opens, the first passengers checked in. Approximately 250 airport testers were ferried to BER in shuttle buses, where they simulated departing passengers. All the processes involved in a normal flight were tested, from check-in to security checkpoints and boarding.

        The legal dispute brought before the Federal Administrative Court regarding noise protection measures for churches near the new Berlin Brandenburg Airport has been resolved. A settlement was signed to this effect by Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg GmbH and the evangelical parishes Blankenfelde and Schulzendorf-Waltersdorf. The settlement applies to 20 evangelical parishes around the new airport.

        On 25 March 2012, Spanish low-cost airline Vueling will start operating daily flights from Berlin-Tegel to Barcelona, the Spanish metropolis on the Mediterranean Sea. An Airbus A320 will depart from Tegel daily at 2.50 p.m. (as of 3 June, from BER), landing in Barcelona at 5.20 p.m. The flight from Barcelona will depart at 11.25 a.m., arriving in Tegel at 2.10 p.m.
